Government and Equator Exploration entered into Contract for Block 5

National Petroleum Agency on behalf of the Government of Democratic Republic of SaoTome and Principe has entered into Production Sharing Contract with Equator Exploration for Block 5 on this date.

This Contract is the first one to be signed in Exclusive Economic Zone of SaoTome and Principe.

EEZ Blocks 5 and 12 Negotiations

Agência Nacional do Petróleo, a.k.a. National Petroleum Agency of SaoTome and Principe wishes to update all stakeholders on Exclusive Economic Zone:
- National Petroleum Agency on behalf of Government has started negotiations with Equator Exploration for Blocks 5 and 12
- Prior to the launching of the First EEZ Licensing Round on 2^nd March at London, Equator Exploration has exercised its preferential rights pursuant to the Agreement entered into with Government on 12th February 2001, by selecting Blocks 5 and 12.
- This first round of negotiations took place from 31^st May 2010 to 4^th June 2010.
- The second round of negotiations will resume on first week of July 2010.

The information provided to oil companies included technical overview, geology of Exclusive Economic Zone and the geology of Gulf of Guinea, Petroleum Legal Framework in place and review of all documents required by companies to submit a bid to be evaluated by the National Petroleum Agency after closing date of 15^th September.

National Petroleum Agency has launched on 2^nd March the first competitive bidding round to explore for hydrocarbons for up to seven Blocks in EEZ
The ceremony has taken place simultaneously in London and in Sao Tome.

In SaoTome the bidding round was formally opened by the Joaquim Rafael Branco, Prime Minister and Head of Government.

In London the ceremony took place at the APPEX Conference held in Business Design Centre, Ilston.

The Government of SaoTome and Principe was represented by a delegation comprised of by the Minister of Natural Resources, Xavier Mendes and Executive Director of National Petroleum Agency, Luis dos Prazeres.

Many International Oil Companies, some majors and independents expressed interest in future petroleum development of Exclusive Economic Zone.

Agência Nacional do Petróleo de SãoTomé e Principe (ANP-STP) a.k.a. National Petroleum Agency is pleased to announce resolution of the preemption rights for Petroleum Exploration within its territorial waters. In accordance with these preemptions rights, Equator Exploration and ERHC have each been awarded two blocks subject to PSC negotiation which will include a competitive work program. The details of the block awards are as follows;

Equator Exploration     Block 5(Zone A) and Block 12(Zone B)

ERHC                                    Block 4(Zone A) and Block 11(Zone B)

The seven (7) remaining Blocks of the EEZ, as follow, will be made available for the STP First Licensing Round that will open on March 2nd 2010 at the APPEX Conference in London:

Zone A: Blocks 1, 2, 3 and 6

Zone B:  Blocks 7, 8 and 13
